Attn: DV Survivors of Colorado Springs!

Years ago, even before I began my intentional healing, I decided the tiara would be my symbol of reclamation from my traumatic past. More specifically, I wanted it to represent my healing from domestic violence, the pain I experienced in my first marriage.

You can learn more by watching my TEDxColoradoSprings Talk here: Ask Me About My Tiara

* Domestic Violence: For this project, we are defining domestic violence as it applies to a relationship with an intimate partner (boyfriend, husband). Though domestic violence can include others within your circle, this project is focused on intimate partner violence.

Domestic violence includes mental, physical, emotional, abuse sexual abuse within the relationship. Please see the “Power and Control Wheel” for more information if you are unsure. *

Our stories are not in competition with each other. Though there may be different levels or types of abuse experiences, our pain is not in competition.

When: September 10, 2023 4:00-6:00 pm (8 of 10 spots available)

Where: Colorado Springs Location

Exact location will be shared with participants privately. You must come to this location at the appointed time. We cannot come to you.

What — The Project Details:

  • Each date is limited to 10 women in total per event
  • Each participant will have her portrait made with a tiara that is provided
  • Each participant will receive said tiara to keep
  • All participants will be in one group portrait with Angela
  • Participants are encouraged to dress to suit their individual personality and style (but more than an everyday casual look)
  • Each participant will share some of their experience with the trauma they experienced (their scars) along with where they are in their healing journey (their tiara) — this will happen in a one-on-one conversation with Angela. The emphasis will be on your healing journey.
  • Images will be shared with each participant’s story on angelagilesklocke.com starting in August 2023

Before you sign up, please thoughtfully ask yourself the following:

  • Is it safe for me to identify publicly as a survivor of domestic violence?
  • Am I comfortable being a public face of a domestic violence survivor in this project?
  • If it is not safe or comfortable for me, am I open to photos that do not show my face? (We will still take photos with your face but they won’t appear anywhere unless/until you make a different decision.)
  • If it is not safe or comfortable for me, am I open to sharing my story anonymously?
  • Can I commit to the two hours we will spend as a group?
  • Can I commit to traveling to Colorado Springs if I’m not already in the area?

Please note: this is not just a photo shoot open to survivors of domestic violence to get photos (that is a different project and it happens once or twice a year). This is a project with the intention of being displayed on our website and in a show at a later date as the collection grows. Though a book project is also in the plan for the future, that will be discussed with each participant when the time comes. I ask that each interested woman thoughtfully consider if this feels comfortable and doable.

Also, we ask that you do not bring family or friends with you.

Who — YOU!
